Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how RoastIQ ("the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use the RoastIQ iOS application — an AI-powered trivia game with quick rounds, custom topic quizzes and a daily challenge.
The short version. RoastIQ has no account and doesn't ask for your real name. Your stats, streak, badges and the photo you optionally add are stored only on your device. When you play a topic quiz online, the topic text you type and an anonymous identifier are sent to our content service to generate questions. If you allow notifications, we may send the occasional reminder. We use industry-standard tools for install attribution; the app plays exactly the same whether or not you allow tracking.
1. Information we process
a. Profile & progress on your device
Your stats and streak, level and XP, unlocked badges, game history, settings, and the photo you optionally add are stored only on your device. There is no account, and we do not receive or upload this data. Your photo is read through the system photo picker (or camera) and saved locally inside the app; deleting the app removes it.
b. AI question generation
To build fresh quizzes — especially in Topic Mode — the app can use our hosted content service. When you play online, the topic text you enter and an anonymous app identifier are sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to generate questions. We do not ask for, or attach, your real identity. If you are offline, the app falls back to a built-in question bank on your device.
c. Push notifications — Firebase Cloud Messaging
If you allow notifications, we use Firebase Cloud Messaging (a Google service) to deliver occasional messages — for example, a gentle nudge to keep your streak going. Firebase assigns your installation a push token and processes basic device information to deliver these messages. You can turn notifications off at any time in iOS Settings, and the app works fully without them.
d. Attribution & marketing measurement — AppsFlyer
We use AppsFlyer to understand which marketing source led to your install and to measure installs and sessions. AppsFlyer processes device identifiers and install/session events. If you grant tracking permission, this may include the Apple Advertising Identifier (IDFA).
e. Diagnostics
We may receive aggregated, anonymised crash and performance data to keep the app stable.
2. App Tracking Transparency
iOS asks your permission before the app can track you across other apps and websites. If you deny, AppsFlyer will not use the IDFA. RoastIQ plays exactly the same either way — no feature is gated behind it. You can change this any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
3. Third-party services
The services below process data on our behalf; their own policies apply:
- Google Firebase (push notifications) — firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- AppsFlyer (attribution) — appsflyer.com/legal
- Apple (App Store) — apple.com/legal/privacy
4. How we use information
- To generate the trivia questions you ask for.
- To send notifications you have opted into.
- To measure the effectiveness of our marketing.
- To keep the app secure and stable.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Data retention
Data on your device — including your stats and photo — remains until you delete the app. Topic text sent to the AI content service is used to produce your questions and is not tied to your identity. Data held by our providers follows their standard retention periods.
6. Children
RoastIQ is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
7. Your choices
- Photo — entirely optional; add or remove it in Settings.
- AI topic quizzes — optional; the built-in question bank works offline.
- Notifications — turn off any time in iOS Settings.
- Tracking — deny or revoke in iOS Settings.
- App data — delete the app to remove all local data.
- Requests — email us to ask a question or request deletion of data associated with your device.
8. Security
Any requests to our service and providers are sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the limited data we process.
9. International users
Our providers may process data on servers outside your country. By using RoastIQ you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in those locations.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest version. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
